If it turns out to be a heart problem or heart attack, a collapsed lung, a pneumonia, a blood clot in the lung, bad heartburn, costochondritis (inflammation of the rib joints), etc..., he will be in the right place at the ER.

Dull ache chest: This sounds of orthopedic nature and less likely to be cardiac given your young age (30) and the fact that it is positional in nature. Best to start with an orthopedist. If you can't get in to see one for months, start with a fellowship trained physical therapist.

Stabbing chest pains may be due to lung pathology, pinched nerve or rib cage pathology. Associated arm numbness also occurs in cardiac disorders. Appropriate testing is best done in the emergency room setting.

Cardiac pain, musculoskeletal pain, pleurisy, pneumonia, reflux can all cause this.  If it is persistent then an evaluation with a doctor is advised.
