Not uncommon.: After open heart surgery, there is frequently areas of the chest that are numb, or the opposite, painful. It is felt to be due to small, cutaneous nerves that were cut with the midline incision to open the chest. You could try Neurontin or lyrica, (pregabalin) both good for neurological pain. Check with your doctor.
