Is the second toe: The longest toe? Is it hammered at all? These are things to consider.....a nerve entrapment or neuroma is a possibility as well.....that's where I would start.

See a podiatrist....: It sounds like an arthritic bone ridge that is forcing a nerve to be compressed and irritated when you wear shoes.  It may be as simple as stretching out your shoes over this area, or having the bony lump smoothed down surgically.

You may have: Anterior tarsal tunnel syndrome which is a nerve compression of the deep peroneal nerve on the top of the foot. Or a radiculopathy from your back.

Very likely: Nerve impingement (anywhere from the spine all the way down the leg) can cause those symptoms. See a physiatrist to confirm the diagnosis and to come up with a treatment plan.

Need to see your doc: You need to go back and see your doctor and discuss your concerns and see what suggestions they have.  If not happy after that seek a 2nd opinion.

Yes: Bunions and the deformity associated w/ them( hallux valgus) can press on the second toe and cause deformity ( hammertoes, etc.). Pressure on the second toe digital nerve can certainly cause numbness you are experiencing. See your orthopedic surgeon or podiatrist for evaluation. Best of Luck!

Possibly: A bunion deformity can cause limited motion at the big toe joint which can intern cause more pressure at the next joint which can cause a pressure neuropathy. There can be several causes for this condition and if you are concerned that this problem is getting worse, you should Physically get examined by a professional.

my big toe on both feet and second toe on rhs have gone numb....last night it was only the big toe on the rhs.  i did over exert myself yesterday moving some furniture around.  will it go away?

Warm Epson salt soak: Most Likely the numbness will go away after a few days or so. Seems the Big Toe function in weight bearing  was greatly challenged by moving heavy furniture. A warm water and Epson salt soak of  both feet could provide some relief. Also adding Vitamin B-Complex for nerve health and help also. If numbness continues after a week or so one should see the PCP.

: Pain in the foot can be caused by injury (if you experienced a traumatic blow or pressure), muscular (if you overexerted by exercise or long standing), and tendon (if there was a stretching or movement that might have damaged tendons or ligaments). Your best option is to have the foot examined to make sure there is nothing going on that needs treatment. It may get worse if left untreated.
