Nerve: This sounds like an irritable superficial nerve in your lower lip. As long as the area involved isn't extending, it appears to be minor issue. A neurologist would be best qualified to evaluate and advise you if you have further concerns or if the symptoms persist or worsen.

i have a numb lip on one side it also extends to my chin. its not consistent it comes & goes but its every day. could this be numb chin syndrome? i also have tmj, swollen parotid, possible chordoma being monitored.

Could be: Could be from any of the causes you mentioned. Would suggest that you make sure both an Oral Surgeon and a Neurologist are part of your diagnostic team.

Chin numbness : The causes of chin numbness are variable. Anything that leads to inflammation or irritation of the inferior alveolar and mental nerve branches will cause chin numbness. Dental evaluation is a reasonable approach in addition to a medical evaluation.

my husband had a severe accident. he had a major jaw surgery. how long will it take for the numbness in chin and lower lip to go??

Depends: on type of injury ,repair of damaged nerve , location  of injury when repaired will regenerate at the of  1mm a day ( approximate )  , in some areas may not regenerate and will be permanent , speak to his doctor for exact out come .

Chin/Lip Numbness: Have you seen a dentist to rule out any issues with your teeth? An infection in the jaw can place pressure on the inferior alveolar nerve and give you those symptoms. You may not necessarily have pain or swelling.

Anatomy suggests: A problem in the distribution of the mental nerve, which is a branch of the v-iii division of the trigeminal nerve.  Cause could be of dental origin, but have seen problems over the naso-pharynx present in this fashion.  Would start evaluation with your dentist, but later perhaps ENT if questions remain.

Early stroke?!: Because of your age (61), the first concern is whether you are having TIAs, which are temporary small strokes in your brain. This can cause sudden unexplained numbness or weakness in any part of your body.  It can be a sign of a larger stroke to come, so please, see a doctor right away, or go to the emergency room the next time you have this symptom!

Most Likely Will Not: Although very rare, I have seen patients who have had sensation recovery beyond a year.  There are several injuries to a nerve that can occur.  Neuropraxia, axonotmesis, and neurotmesis.   Best to discuss this with your oral and maxillofacial surgeon.

got all wisdom teeth out- numbness in lower lip and chin 12 hours later. can't be from the local since that wore off. maybe a nerve? is it permanent?

Paresthesia: Not an uncommon post operative issue. Usually not permanent, but you need to call your oral surgeon immediately to advise
them of the situation. There are treatments to help the nerve heal which should be started if they are warranted.

had a chin implant 10 months ago and my right lower lip is still partially numb, it's an awful feeling in between being numb and normal. will this end?

Unclear: It sounds like you may have experienced some damage to a sensory nerve in the area of your operation.  It may improve over time but it may not ever completely heal.
