catch 22. got lots of nasal drip from a cold but every time i blow my nose (even softly) a nostril scab tears& my nose bleeds. to blow or not to blow?

This blows: Stop blowing and let your nose heal. When it stops bleeding then you can go back to trying gently blowing it. Consider an over the counter medicine like Sudafed to help with the stuffy nose in the meantime.

gushing nosebleeds that last 20 mins or longer when i wash my face or shower & at random. i have had 7 in the past 3 days. no scabs visible in nostril?

See your doctor.: If this has been happening repeatedly, a visit to your doctor would be useful. They can examine your nose and perhaps do a blood test to check your blood clotting and platelets. It would be worth checking out. Good luck.

Nose : Nose bleeds are common and usually easily stopped with firm pressure and head up position.  If they are frequent, you may need to consult your ent.

Need evaluation : Usually nose bleeds are from trauma to thin superficial nasal vessels that tear with nose picking. However bleeding several times with trauma needs examination.

so last night i had a nosebleed out of nowhere, like i woke up to a nose bleed, dont know what caused it, then i was using the restroom, another nosebleed. please help i dont know what it is?

: It's common in the winter time especially if the air in your house is dry because of heating. If bleeding comes out anteriorly and it stops within minutes by pushing the ala to the septum on the bleeding side, the bleeding is from the fragile kiesselbach plexus then you have nothing to worry. If nosebleed recurs quite often in the next couple days or it takes a long time to stop, see your doctor.

what concerns me the most are the most recent nose bleeds. pre-2005 i suffered a lot with nosebleeds. this stopped. over the previous 2 nights, these have been recurrent. should i be concerned?

Noses bleed sometime: Nosebleeds can be due to many things that cause one of the little veins on the inside of the nose (usually the middle septum) to crack and leak temporarily. Heavy breathing in sports, hot air, cold air, allergies, nose-picking, colds, etc... are some of the causes of nosebleeds. He who bleeds "too often" or "too long" can have his blood checked to see if his blood is clotting far too slowly.

Sealing the vessel: Nosebleeds are caused by a bleeding blood vessel or several small vessels, usually on the middle wall of one nostril.  Cauterization means using heat, electricity or a chemical to essentially burn the edges of the vessel and seal it closed so blood won't leak anymore.

Yes: Multiple causes:
simple dry nasal mucosa and irritation and picking at it.
Colds are irritation and can cause bleeding areas.
High blood pressure and a bunch of other things
use nasal saline spray twice daily.
Do not put anything in your nostrils.
If reoccurs see ent.

my fiance had his nose cauterized 9 months ago and has had three nosebleeds in the last 24 hours... on the same side... what should we do?

Epistaxis: Go back to the ENT again. Sometimes it takes more than one cauterization to completely resolve the problem. Or, in some cases there is a new area on the same side causing problems. Maybe he has predisposing factors for bleeding like medications, hereditary coagulation problems, or anatomic issues like a deviated septum.
