is an early fatty liver that is accidentally detected in an ultrasound concerning? my overall liver is healthy with normal lfts, but i've been told to reduce weight to reverse fatty liver. is it really serious at this stage?

: You need to maintain a healthy weight, refrain from alcohol and your liver should stay healthy.
For healthy diet: http://www.choosemyplate.gov/., exercise 30 minutes/day, drink enough water daily so your urine is mostly colorless, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol weed or street drugs.

Fatty liver disease: Fatty liver disease is caused by excessive fat accumulation in the the liver.  Fatty liver can lead to complications including hardening of the liver called cirrhosis. If your bmi is too high, then losing weight will help mitigate your long term associated health risks. Chicken contains unhealthy saturated fats, but eating it once per week sounds reasonable to me. Not sure.: without seeing all of the liver test results, it is difficult to comment on what may be happening. Obviously, with your ALT elevated, there is still something wrong. I would return to your gastroenterologist for further explanation and evaluation. Good luck.

my us report suggested that i have "fatty infiltration of liver" (and a gb stone). does this mean a fatty liver? the doctor who did my cholecystectomy told me that my liver is fine and normal, i just need to drop some weight. should i be worried?

: Fatty liver is a growing cause of cirrhosis. It is good that you are motivated to lose weight. Losing weight through diet and exercise is imperative.

See your doctor.: Reduce your total cholesterol level.
Reach a healthy weight. If you need to lose weight, be sure to do so slowly (no more than 1 to 2 pounds a week).Quick weight loss from crash diets, surgery, or medicine increases inflammation and scarring in your liver.
Control diabetes and metabolic syndrome
Stop or cut back on drinking alcohol.
Exercise regularly.
See your PCP for a plan for the above.

Liver size: You give only 1 dimension, I assume it is the length of the right lobe.  18.5cm may be mildly enlarged, or normal for you, depending on the anatomic configuration of the rest of the liver.  There are many causes of mild liver enlargement, fatty liver is one common one.

Yes: avoid alcohol, lose weight, do exercise, avoid fatty meals. Liver can go back to normal. If it doesn't you can develop cirrhosis of the liver
