Its abnormal: After two hours 40% emptying is normal.  After 3 hours 70% emptying is normal.

my 6y had a solid gastric emptying study. emptying %'s: 1hr 16%, 2hr 40.6% & 4hr 82%.hes fft, has early satiety. dr said results normal. your opinion?

Mild delay: Just by reviewing the results, the gastric emptying at 4 hrs show mild delay in emptying. Grading for severity of delayed gastric emptying based on 4 hour value in normal results:
Grade 1 (mild): 11-20% retention at 4 hours 
Grade 2 (moderate): 21-35% retention 
Grade 3 (severe): 36-50% retention
Grade 4 (very severe): &gt;50% retention 
This is just based on results and no other clinical knowledge.

See below.: In the emptying study we measure how long it takes food to exit the stomach.  If the stomach or intestines were partially full it would alter the emptying time and invalidate the study.

Impacts study: Some research studies have shown Omeprazole delays gastric emptying (though other studies have not born this out). Taking a medicine that may impact or alter the true results of a study are not in your best interest. You want to know if your stomach behaves properly or not. To find out, we stop all medicines that may give false answers before testing.

Solid foods: You should not eat or drink before the gastric emptying study for at least 8 hours. If you had to drink, drink water. Dairy products are slow to empty from the stomach, especially milk, so i would not have milk the day before the test. Also avoid certain medications like reglan, (metoclopramide) Erythromycin and domperidon- they affect stomach emptying.

i have symptoms of gastroparesis, but i'm not sure my gastric emptying study would suggest  this.  my study results are as follows:35% emptying?

Too vague: Symptoms of gastroparesis are somewhat vague and usually due to other disorders like stomach surgery, diabetes or ?.   Discuss this with a dr. Who needs all the specifics of your history.   Stay upright after eating and even go for a walk (gravity is free and no side effects).  Reglan (metoclopramide) is a med that may help but liquid form or dissolving form more likely to help but side effects can and do occur.

Time for 1/2: The t 1/2 is the time it takes for your stomach to empty half of its contents.  The normal value is approximately 120  minutes.

Ulcer treatment: Carafate (sucralfate) is used primarily for coating of an ulcer. I dont believe it helps gastric emptying.

Functional test.: The gastric emptying study is a test of function, not structure, and thereby cannot be relied upon to show gastric cancer.

??: Not sure if i understand. In the first hour of a solid-phase gastric emptying study, 43% emptying would be considered normal.
