is a whooshing sound normal during an echocardiogram? i had an echocardiogram this morning and the machine was making clicking and whooshing sounds. i wont be talking to my doctor until next week, and im worried the noises mean somethings wrong.

Doppler: That is the doppler part of the echocardiogram. The sound represents the flow of blood. You could get an idea of what the pictures look like by listening to that sound. How loud the sound is and whether it occurs during systole or diastole would give you a clue for istance, but most people interpreting the study just look at the images and don't pay much attention to those sounds.

No: However, if you have a normal Echo and elevated troponin levels, you may have had a small heart attack.  Your doctor should have told you about the troponin, if there was a concern for a heart attack.  CT can be used in place of MRI.  Delayed images will show an area of heart injury.  However, you need to balance the radiation dose with you need to know if all else is negative.

hello! recently got an echocardiogram that came back normal. it did have a reading that my rv tissue doppler velocity is 17.2 cm/s. is this normal? if so what does it mean?

: RV tissue velocity means right ventricular tissue velocity. That's the right lower chamber in your heart. That reading measures the strength of your right ventricular heart muscle. The lower limit of normal is 10cm/sec so 17 should be fine. Check with your doctor to discuss the full report so you can understand the value in light of the situation that warranted the echocardiogram.
