Implies inflammation: The gallbladder is a sac which stores bile. It releases it's bile in response to hormones for help with digestion. There are two main reasons the gallbladder would be contracted. Most commonly In response to a recent meal.  If you have fasted for 9 hours, I would expect your gallbladder to be full with bile. Partial contraction implies scarring from inflammation either currently or in the past.

18 yr old female. history of non-symptomatic gallstones dissolved with help of ursodiol. i have slight gallbladder wall thickening any idea why? also, my gb always appears contracted on ultrasound despite fasting-why, anything to do about it?

: Gall stones can cause thickening of the wall of the GB. Gall bladder shape and size vary with the conditions affecting it.

i had a ct scan to look for thickening of the wall of my colon.  scan showed no thickening but a contracted gallbladder after fasting. what's the tx?

Unless you have : Symptoms suggesting gallbladder disease i would do nothing. The gallbladder can contract by just drinking some water so a contracted one alone is of doubtful significance. Ultrasound can be used to look for gallstones should there be some need for further evaluation and hepatobiliary scans can look for abnormal gallbladder filling and emptying in patients with suspected gallbladder dysfunction.

fasting blood work 4 months ago. tbili 1.5, dbili 0.2, alkphos 44, ast 24, alt 20. now a dull ache under right ribs. odds it is liver? gallbladder?

Unlikely: I wouldn't be surprised if you had Gilbert's non-disease. Otherwise these labs are not suspicious for any liver problem. If this was biliary colic, you may have gallbladder disease, or a sore muscle or cartilage, or any of a number of other things. If it lasts over 2 weeks, get seen.

Gallstones: Your diabetes does not seem to be an issue here.  The advise of what to do depends on whether you are having symptoms related to gallstones.  If you have no symptoms then there is nothing that needs to be done currently.  If you have symptoms then gallbladder removal maybe an option.  Best to discuss with your primary doctor or see a general surgeon.

Depends: Usually when the GB is distended it is usually seen when a person is not eating. Generally a is a incidental finding and does not need anything unless a patient is symptomatic. It also depends on what modality was used to define the size of the gallbladder, whether it was an ultrasound or CT scan.

Unless you are  having symptoms of discomfort in the right upper quadrant, I would not worry.

As loaded barrel: Gall bladder contracts and empties the bile with fatty meal , physiological distended gb is filled to the capacity , ready to empty after meal results in partially distended half filled gb.  Distends in disease also as stone blocks cystic duct ( hydrops ) or tumor in head of pancreas.

Sometimes yes: But most likely that it has not received stimulus to empty, such as fasting state.  If it fails to empty in response to eating or to cck, it could be abnormal, especially if cck stimulation causes symptoms.  Consult with GI for specific opinion in your individual case.

Distention: A distended gallbladder without gallstones could be a normal variant or could be due to an obstruction in the biliary tract distally, however that would also cause other related symptoms.
