Mammogram: There are various mammographic features that determine the level of suspicion, however at this point it sounds like you haven't had an ultrasound, so the evaluation is not complete.  Usually these turn out benign, e.g. a cyst, but if it is solid on ultrasound, needle biopsy may be needed to establish a diagnosis.  Those usually turn out benign too.  So yes, concerned but not alarmed.

Advice follow up: You need to follow through with the advice given by the radiologist, as nodular and dense breasts are often hard to "see through".

Difficult: to determine without evaluating the mammographic features, but if they are indeed probably benign(BIRADS  category 3) that implies a greater than 98% of it being benign.  The ultrasound will help further characterize the nodule.  Most commonly these types of findings turn out to be cysts on ultrasound.

breast- "isodense nodular density.. mlo and ml views slightly more prominent than 2020 but a diff technique was used" birad 3. my 2020 exam never mentioned this (done at a diff facility). said 6 mo follow up. ultrasound clear. what could it be?

: It is probably nothing and they are just being careful. Radiologists vary in how aggressively they read the films, and what they are looking at was less obvious two years ago, maybe because it was actually less obvious, maybe because of different techniques. In any case the change has been minimal and if they were really concerned they would have a different recommendation.

Yes: Before getting implants  you should also have an ultrasound and/or mammogram to rule out any suspicious nodules.  However, you should still be able to get breast implants with dense nodular breasts.  In any case whether or not you have nodular breasts you should also continue to be diligent with monthly self breast exams and annual routine physicals.

: Although this appears to be a benign finding describing a little more breast tissue in one area of the breast,I would expect the radiologist would give more of a conclusion and a recommendation of some sort in the final report. I know I would insist on it.  Your ordering MD can find out more information from the radiologist for you.

"Lumpy" breasts: Nodular breasts are felt as "lumpy" breasts as the underlying breast tissue does not have a smooth or consistent appearance on mammogram. Breast cancer has been known to "hide" in nodular breast tissue on mammogram, so do your monthly breast self exam and note any differences to your MD&gt;

Glandular/ductal: tissue, radiates out in all areas of the breast, from the nipple locations. If a mass, or unusual discharge, or  persistent pain is noted, see your doctor for an exam and testing.
