Copper: 1st get a copper level checked. Also ask for some liver function testing. They have a classic kaiser-fleischer ring around the iris of the eye....And lastly is to get a liver biopsy.

Complaint?: How long has it been? What makes it worse or better. What have you tried to help? What medicines do you take? What have you been treated for? Anything run in the family? How's life outside of this problem? Are you hurting anywhere? Have you been gaining or losing weight? Sleeping, eating ok? Have you ever been hospitalized? What kind of work do you do? Do you smoke or drink? Married, have children.

A couple: If you are healthy, non obese or smoker, a simple cbc, liver and kidney chemistries, cholesterol profile and a psa(prostate cancer test). Please realize there are many factors that can influence labs or tests ordered.

Lifestyle changes: For type 2 diabetes mellitus (the most common kind), first steps in treatment center on learning about diabetes, and making changes to the diet and adding in regular exercise.  Medications are sometimes needed from the outset and that depends on the clinical situation.  Keep in mind that by the time diabetes is diagnosed, many times there are already complications from it, so don't wait!

how much is duration of life for patients newly diagnosed with leukodystrophy?

Depends on type/form: For example, infantile metachromatic leukodystrophy onset is by age 2, with 50-60% morbidity by 5. Juvenile onset between age 4-10 (20-30% of cases) has slower progression. There are 2 adult-onset forms, one starts with neurologic/motor problems, the other with behavioral challenges. Please ask the attending specialist.

Probably: ? Re doctor skillful with Fibromyalgia &amp; taking new patients in her region. Start w. local medical society, ask this question, &amp; obtain list of local Rheumatologists, who have greatest expertise with this disorder. Next, call each of them in turn &amp; ask scheduling secretary if they are taking new patients. You will probably need a primary care physician, PCP, to do formal referral to this doctor.

Checklist/ timeout: There are lot of measures taken to prevent errors in the operating room such as timeouts, check list that the chief scrub nurse goes thro. This prevents wrong part of the body being operated upon, whether instrument count is accurate or correct number of gauzes used etc.

Stages..: I am not clear in what the question is but if you are asking   about the person's reaction after diagnosis, people usually go through 4 stages: denial( they deny the condition or act like it does not exist), anger( they get very angry at life, others or God), negotiation( the person tries to negotiate a solution with God or life), acceptance( person finally accepts condition and treatment/options.

Evaluation: Both history and observation are important in reaching diagnosis, as well as info from collateral sources if available.
