Smoking: This not an accurate description (smoking related shadowing)   if there is an abnormality on the cxr it has to be described in a better way. You can have your cxr looked at by someone else.

what does mucosal resection mean?? all info i find says it is to remove cancer! (my husband is scheduled for this & 2nd endoscope for a small mass found in his stomach; surgeon said mass shows no evidence of cancer - but scheduled this to be sure)??

Superficial bx: When a lesion develops in the bowel or stomach, the former from a polyoma virus, the latter from helicobacter pylori, the initial premalignant (genotypic transformation) occurs in the mucosa.  This is the glandular lining of the GI tract.  If the bx of mucosa proves benign, it is not necessary to re:excise the area with underlying muscular layer.

Liver mass: It means there are 2 spots in your liver that have a high blood flow and could possibly be abnormal. They can not tell exactly what they are by ultrasound. You need an MRI which will give much greater detail. You should see your primary care doctor to help arrange this. But it means there might be a problem in your liver and you need follow up tests- don't ignore this.

Clear margins: Depending on the nature of a mass, the edges may be clearly discernible or diffuse. Discrete implies readily identified margins. The rest depends on the clinical context.

Ultasound,CT,MRI: Us, ct and MRI allow us to identify different characteristics to help make a specific diagnosis. Occassionally a mass will need to be sampled with a biopsy. This can be guided by ultrasound or ct depending on the situation. There are also times when ct-pet or pet imaging can be utilized.
The decision regarding the appropriate work up will be made by your doctor in consultation with a radiologist.

See below.: This is a "lump" or tumor of tissue that does not have calcium in it.  The significance of the wording depends upon what the radiologist is describing.  Whether a tumor is a bad tumor or a benign tumor is impossible to say with only this description.

Shadow: Means there may be an x ray 'shadow' which is meaningless, BUT they cannot be sure that there is not a mass.  A repeat image will clear the matter...

Mass on kidney: Not to sound silly, but that means there is a 4cm mass on your left kidney.  Without any further information, that is something that would definitely need to be evaluated with more testing.  Best wishes.

"Black mass": Does not provide any information with regard to the possibilities. In ultrasound we don't use the word "black". We use different language such as solid, hypoechoic, etc. To describe masses and possibilities depend on the specific ultrasound appearance, organ being studied, patient history, lab tests, and whether or not there is vascular flow associated with the mass.
