my newborn baby is both bottle and breast fed. he has been spitting up very severely after every fed & chokes while eating, very gasy. how to cure?

Slow down feedings: He may be drinking tooquickly. It should take 20-30 minutes to feed him.In between he should be burped frequently.

my belly hurt a lot after eating ham. if it had listeriosis, would listeria still be in my mouth today if i ate it yesterday? i've been kissing my newborn all day and drooled on him while sleeping.

Listeriosis: Listeriosis is a serious disease for humans;  the two main clinical manifestations are sepsis and meningitis. Meningitis is often complicated by encephalitis.  Even so you did not mention any symptoms suggest meningitis or sepsis, i suggest you see your dr. Soon for your abdominal pain.

my husband didn't wash or sterilize newborn's bottle before giving it to him, it was just one. will he be okay??

No prediction: Physicians cannot predict illness. If your child gets sick you will know why and know it probably won't be too serious. Let you both learn from this and not worry too much. Kids are resilient, even with us as parents.

Baby bottle: Any brand of bottle will suffice. No special bottle is needed although the nipple may be more important.

why are you advised not to feed a newborn baby with a bottle?

Accepted Answer

Not necesarily: One may breast feed AND feed with a bottle.  Some advise that the infant may become used to the natural or artificial nipple. We did not find that to be the case. Don't be too rigid either way! Use what works for your baby. :-)

do i need to sterilize newborns bottles for at least 3months? im afraid of baby bottles shed microplastics when heated. is it still safe if i just wash the bottles with warm soapy water without boiling to sterilize?

: Before first use boil the bottle and nipple in water for 5 minutes.After that you do not need to sterlize.Just wash with soap and warm water after use.You are doing the right thing washing in warm soapy water.

my oldest daughter was playing with glitter for her artwork. glitter is everywhere in my house. will it harm my newborn? what if it gets near or on a bottle? we sterilize them in the microwave?

Ignore it: This is no more worrisome than the dust in the room. If the kid eats it accidentally it would go right through without any problem.

Yes: Absolutely safe to do.Many families use this approach.The occasional problem is intolerance to the formula , such as gas , loose stools, and spitting. Otherwise no problem.

is it safe that i pump a 6oz bottle of breastmilk and feed it to my newborn at night?  he wakes up like 3 times & drinks 2 oz. i leave it in the bedroom

Safe- yes: Room temp stored breast milk- for overnight use is ok. But usually recommended to keep it refrigerated for use over 2-3 days. Frozen bm is suggested if used over a week.

will using a fast flow hurt my newborn baby? my husband has been using the 6 months and older bottle nipple on our newborn. i noticed when i heard him gulping and choking needing breaks. has this harmed him? its been happening for 2 weeks?

Basics: The best working nipple for any bottle fed infant is one they do not work extra to gain a meal but do not choke on the flow. Often just turning the bottle over to time the drip/drip sequence will help tell a proper flow. If the drips come 1=2/second it is likely fine. If it flows nearly continuously it is a problem.
