Injections: Prior to having surgery you may want to try injection therapy. I have found excellent success with a series of Dehydrated Alcohol injections. Some docs like steroid, but ceratinly it is worth a shot (no pun intended) prior to surgery.

Try nonsurg care 1st: The  main benefit is  successful resolution of  the painful problem.  The risks include a "stump neuroma, " that can be more difficult to treat than the original neuroma..  The toes next to the neuroma may drift or even become hammertoes from inadvertent damage to small tendons or muscles that hold the toes stable.  Infection, pain, swelling, and scar are always risks of any surgery.

Neuromas: Only if conservative treatment fails. These treatments may include: cortisone injections, orthotics, therapeutic neurolysis via dilute alcohol injections (my favorite) and more.

Talk to your doctor: Talk to the surgeon that removed your tumor. He or she will be most familiar with you and the pathology of your case.

Depends: Make sure the shoes are loose fitting; discuss with your nurse manager a possibility for a less walking related task, and it also depends on the pain level you experience. Maybe switching to nights with a co-worker for a few weeks could help.

Neuroma: Surgery if it is symptomatic, or try nerve block andsoft pads inserts.

Yes!!!: Fashion rarely has to do with anything sensible.  And our bodies were not designed to walk in high heals. It not only effects your feet, but your knees and your hips.  Will get much worse with age or weight gain.

Accepted Answer

Not necessarily: You may get by with observation and padding and temporary pain medication.  You may have to have the neuroma injected with a stroid and local anesthetic.  There are other options before going straight to surgery.  See a reputable orthopedist, foot and ankly trained orthopedist or reputable podiatrist.  Seek a second opinion and a third opinion if necessary.  This is a nuissance condition usually.
