Don't request MRI: Let the doctor make the decisions about testing. That's why you're going to a doctor in the first place. You're not going to a restaurant and ordering off a menu. It's not about what YOU want, it's about what's best for your son. Let the doctor decide on the appropriate diagnostic algorithm. Would you like someone who doesn't have your training to tell you how to do YOUR job?

Neuro vs General : A neurophthalmologist has received additional training in neuro-ophthalmology for one to two years.  Many general ophthalmologists can conduct neuro-ophthalmic exams since there are very few neuro-opthalmologists.  Both receive training for three years in ophthalmology residency after one year of internship.  Both are medical doctors as well.  Both can do cataract surgery.

A few new things: You were probably referred by an ophthalmologist for some condition in which the nervous system and eyes interact .  Many of the tests are the same but the emphasis will be more on how the eyes are having difficulty due to nervous system problems.  You probably will think the exams are similar but the interpretation will be more in depth in the direction of the brain and nerves.

Usually benign: Pseudopapilledema, or optic disc drusen as it is also known, is optic disc swelling that simulates some features of papilledema (caused by increased intracranial pressure) but is secondary to an underlying, usually benign, process. im a 51 yr old ms patient. i recently started seeing the image a flash/bright light leaves for over a minute after looking away. it blocks my vision. im seeing my neuro ophthalmologist in mid april. should i push for an earlier appointment? thanks?

i was diagnosed with diabetic macular degeneration. my ophthalmologist wants me to see a neuro-ophthalmologist to make sure. the neuro cannot see me until mid-november. is safe to wait on the macular degeneration treatment? will the macular get worse?

Too long to wait: That’s a bit too long to wait....a week or two I’d tolerate.....find another specialist who can see you sooner.

Unfortunately : Unfortunately the only way for you to avoid exposure is to be your own advocate, and thoroughly investigate every product before using it. 
I recommend you read all  the labels, and if you are not sure contact the manufacturers and ask directly if papaya or any related components are used.
 In the beginning this will be time consuming, but eventually you will compile a list of many products that you know are safe and you can stick to those. 
Also when reading active ingredients or product descscriptions be aware that papain enzyme is derived from  papaya and should also be avoided.
