i had my sural nerve entrapment surgery approximately 10 years ago. now i am experiencing terrible pain in the ankle and the bottom of my foot. do you think its related and what kind of doctor should i see?

: Unlikely any relationship between prior sural nerve issues and current problems.  Perhaps ankle issues are the core cause, but too many other possibilities to be more precise based on these symptoms.  A podiatrist or orthopedic surgeon would be most appropriate consultants.  Start with your primary doctor and get some baseline evaluations first, however.

i have superficial peroneal nerve entrapment in left ankle. starting pt.  recovery time?  bout to start 220 mile hike.  will i be okay to hike?

Nerve entrapment: It depends on what is damaged. If the nerve itself is damaged, the nerve can grow about an inch a month or so to reconnect to the where the nerve endings should be. If the nerve is intact, but the structures around the nerve have been damaged, then the recovery time might be sooner. An electrodiagnostic study could help differentiate the two. Hold off on the hike especially if you have weakness.

complex issues: You have complex issues and all conditions need to be addressed, you need extensive evaluation correct diagnosis and treatment, especially compartment syndrome. Please see a podiatrist or orthopedist.

can corticosteriod shots in my ankle cause bilateral avascular necrosis in my hips? i had two ankle surgeries in the 1990s. the doctor said i had nerve entrapment, i was  shot a couple times a year with corticosteriods. i now have bilateral avascular necr

There : There are many causes of avascular necrosis of the hips.  It is generally considered safe to inject in the joint as there it has less systemic effects.  Steroids can cause avn however it is usually attributed to long term use of steroids by mouth.  Other causes of avn include chronic alcohol use, blood disorders, and about a 1/3 that have no known risk factors.

cannot wear night splint due to discomfort in shin+calf. injury->genu valgum+unstable ankle+vein pops out. could this be saphenous nerve entrapment?

Accepted Answer

Discomfort: Nerve impingement feels different than just "discomfort".  From your description of the symptoms, unlikely.  There may possibly be other reasons for your discomfort.

Accepted Answer

Need nerve testing: The thing about changes in arch height, especially from neutral to a cavus/high arch, is to rule out neuromuscular disease. If you have no history if an injury, you should have nerve testing done. Definitely see a physician.

Yes...: Though regular "leg crossing" can cause symptoms such as these,  there a number of other, more acute and troubling, causes to consider. Lumbosacral nerve compression on one side, anatomical, muscular or vascular problems need to be ruled out. Please see a neurologist now!

Perhaps two: Might experience issues with the radial nerve, or median nerve (pronator syndrome).  Likely both would occur after a cumulative and repetitive sequence.
