Why do you ask?: Where did you get idea that your vagus nerve is damaged?  Vagal input on the right affects the heart rate, and on left predominantly, the other internal organs within the thorax and abdomen.  Vagal function can be tested, but I have NO clue as to why you are asking your question.

My thots: I presume that the unit has been in place for a while, and if present longer than 2-3 weeks, the neck pain has nothing to do with VNS.  However, due to infection risk and potential unit mis-functions, such as aberrant firing, would interrogate and check settings.  However, would also investigate local neck pathology, especially in view of your low back history.

: The vagus nerve is vulnerable to injury in parathyroid surgery, not as much as thyroid surgery.

No: The vagus nerve is one of the cranial nerves, meaning it exits directly out of the brain and so would not be seen on a MRI of the cervical spine.

See doctor: External trauma is not likely to damage vagus nerve but you should have doctor check you out for damage to the larynx.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

: Tickle that provokes cough is due to irritation/inflammation of the back of the throat. Common causes are allergies, colds, sinusitis (postnasal drip), acid reflux and also inhaled irritants (smoke, pollution, vapors), cold air. Avoiding the irritant and treatment of postnasal drip are first steps in managing the problem.
