2 diffferent uses: For a nebulizer I have been told that usually it takes a minimum of 5 liters per minute to adequately nebulize the medication but a CPAP machine is based on regulated pressure not flow.

Yes: The short answer is yes. If you were diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea (osa), than you are at risk for the complications that can come with that disease and wearing the c-pap mask and using the machine is important to your well being.  Weight loss may help and keeping routine appts to follow your care is important in the monitoring process of osa.   Best wishes.

If obstructive sleep: apnea is the reason for using CPAP and the cPAP is properly set and used, the teenager will have better sleep, more energy, greater capacity to learn, will lose excess weight, have more stable moods and need fewer hours of sleep.

Check Fit: Your mask should be comfortable- you need to make sure you have the right sized mask for your face.  There are now masks that just fit in your nostrils, masksade of cloth and gel masks that mold to your face.  See your respiratory therapist or your sleep doctor for more assistance.

CPAP: If you are not rinsing / emptying out the CPAP water chamber regularly, residue can build up as well as mold or other organisms that can cause infection. Best to add new distilled water right before use at night.

Bipap better: Bipap blows two at two pressures--a higher one to facilitate inhaling, then drops lower on exhale, so it is easier. CPAP blows continuously at one pressure for operational simplicity.

The difference: CPAP and BIPAP are both used to help patients with sleep apnea and other respirator disorder. With CPAP there is continuous pressure on the airways during inspiration and expiration. With BIPAP the settings are variable so that there can be a different pressures in inspiration ad expiration. BIPAP may make it easier for some patients to tolerate the airway pressures.

Ideally, yes.: CPAP is the gold standard treatment for osa, and it works very well.  Try it, and hang in there...You can get used to it over time.  If you just cannot tolerate wearing the cpap, then you have 2 options. #1-see your dentist who can make you a mouthpiece type of appliance than can improve your airflow.  #2 talk to your md about surgical options.
