The difference: CPAP and BIPAP are both used to help patients with sleep apnea and other respirator disorder. With CPAP there is continuous pressure on the airways during inspiration and expiration. With BIPAP the settings are variable so that there can be a different pressures in inspiration ad expiration. BIPAP may make it easier for some patients to tolerate the airway pressures.

CPAP vs Bi PAP: CPAP is the more common treatment for Sleep apnea and delivers a constant pressure to keep the airways inflated. Bi PAP delivers a higher pressure for inhaling and a lower pressure when exhaling. BiPAP is used in some situations for sleep apnea when the CPAP is not effective or not tolerated.
