i was just diagnosed with eoe and they want me on the corticosteroid, budesodine. i dont want to be since i realize the side effects and long term danger. what other alternatives do i have?

: Is dietary treatment an option in your case? PPI meds like nexium  or H2 blockers like pepcid may help. Some specialists are using monoclonal antibody treatment. I wouldn't worry about topical budesodine treatment for only a couple of months. Perhaps you'd like a 2nd opinion at a university hospital dept of gastroenterology.

When a corticosteroid is prescribed (topical, oral, or by injection), how long it remains is dependent on how quickly it is metabolized. Usually corticosteroids are metabolized in days but occasionally in weeks.

No: Topical steroids tend not to be absorbed in sufficient quantity to trigger weight gain.  Sometimes, a small reaction does occur to very strong steroid creams, especially if the cream is applied with a bandage or other covering.  But usually we don't' have any weight problems with those medicines.

Not sure: The white blood cell count may increase within 3-4 hours of taking corticosteroids. I am not sure that there is an accurate time for the decrease. Much of it would depend on how long acting the steroid is.

Steroids: Depends on the steroid you used. Typically it is Prednisone or methylprednisolone. Prednisone is out of the system in 18-36 hours. Methylprednisolone in pretty much the same time course.
