A member asked:

How long do corticosteroids remain in your system?

4 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

Days to weeks: Corticosteroids are made naturally in our bodies and are involved in the regulation of inflammation. Because of this, all cells in our bodies have receptors for these compounds. When a corticosteroid is prescribed (topical, oral, or by injection), how long it remains is dependent on how quickly it is metabolized. Usually corticosteroids are metabolized in days but occasionally in weeks.

Depends: You need to look at the half-life of the steroid. Hydrocortisone has a half-life of 8-12 hours. Medrol (methylprednisolone) is 18-36 hours. Prednisone is 18-36 hours. Dexamethasone is 36-54 hours.
