i just found out that i probably have oral thrush. could that be connected to a gum infection that appeared about the same time?

Maybe: Typically you will get thrush if you are on a protracted course of antibiotics / antibacterial mouth rinse which alters the balance of flora in the mouth. If you get rid of too  many of the natural bacteria, the fungus takes over and is much harder to eliminate. So, if you were on any of these for the gum infection, that could be the relationship. Coated tongue: There are innumerable causes of white coated tongue, mostly not serious. HIV is among the causes, but it's a rare one. And coated tongue almost never is the main or only symptom of HIV; you would be quite ill. If you think you might be at risk for HIV, see a doctor for testing for HIV (and other STDs). But testing definitely isn't needed just because of coated tongue.

Thrush or: Oral candidiasis is generally a superficial fungal infection of the mouth characterized by white flaky patches most often on the sides of the cheek and roof of the mouth.It is most common in those whose immune systems are compromised or after antibiotics.  They must be distinguished from other forms of leukoplakia which may be signs of serious illness like oral cancers.  See your doc.

See your dentist: Dry sockets do occur, especially if you are smoking (don't!). Please call the dentist who removed your tooth. He/she will evaluate for any infection, any secondary problem, and possibly place a soothing packing at the site.  Antibiotics may not be necessary unless there is swelling. Call today.

wisdom tooth extraction, infection in gum. dentist prescribed 10days of metronidazole500mg. finished yesterday. tongue is white. concerned for thrush?

It is posible.: Metronidazole  is a bactericidal anti-microbial used primarily to treat anaerobic infections and should not be used as a single agent against mix infections like would occur in the oral cavity. It is ineffective against yeast infections (thrush). Any antimicrobial agent can induce thrush by disrupting the normal microbial balance. Therefore you should have it evaluated by your dentist.

i hv a tiny patch grey/white cluster on my upper gum, by canine that was slightly irritated. it doesn't scrape off with toothbrush. did nystacid for 3 days. then andolex c 4 days. nothing. i have a line on cheek because i grind teeth. thrush?leukopla?

: Many possibilities for a grey/white lesion that does not respond to antibiotics. Have your dentist or oral surgeon take a look.

what causes a bump on the gums? ive had a thrush break out and noticed a bump on my top gum-no teeth or dentures. the bump is regularly shaped and doesnt hurt nor is it sensitive to contact with my tongue, no bleeding or draining. gum boil? abscess?

: Thrush is a fungal disease that leaves white patches not bumps on gums or cheeks. Since you have no teeth or dentures, it could be an irritation on gums from eating something hard or pointed. It could be a small root tip or piece of tooth that was left in area. See a dentist for x-ray and exam.
