took 3 teaspoons of regular strength mylanta before bedtime. woke up 6 hrs later with diahrrea. can this dosage cause diahrrea?  thanks.

Anti Acid : Mutants has Aluminum Hydroxide andMagnesium Hydroxide . It is probably the Magnesium Hydroxide that caused the Diarrhea .

i have gastritis and take 2 mylanta double strength chewables a day. can i take it long term? or is it harmful?

Accepted Answer

: Consider evaluation by GI- gastroenterology. Check for H pylori a bacteria that is  associated with gastritis and needs antibiotics. May also be eosinophilic esophagitis or related to food intolerance-s ( dairy/ gluten)or just foods. Famotidine or omeprazole are meds that are used in reflux but no medication -even Mylanta- should be taken on a long term basis without physician/ provider oversight.

why does maximum strength mylanta make me go poop?

Contains magnesium: Mylanta and similar antacids contain magnesium--the same ingredient found in such laxatives as magnesium citrate, milk of magnesia, (magnesium hydroxide) etc.  Aluminum- and calcium-containing antacids, and/or alginic acid products, may have less laxative qualities for you.  However, if you find the need to take antacids frequently or in increasing frequency, your "indigestion" deserves medical evaluation.

i have had yellow-ish coloured stool for the last 3 days. ive been taking ppis and mylanta double strength chewables for the last couple months, can it be caused by them? what is this caused by? should i be concerned?

Given that your have taken PIs and Mylanta for several months I would follow up with  MD this week there may be a gallbladder  or celiac issues causing the  symptoms. A complete work up is appropriate. F/U w/ MD

i am taking the antibiotic cephalexin, is it fine to take antacids (mylanta) while taking the medication. will it cause any interactions?

: You are concerned that the Mylanta might trap some of the antibiotic and lower its effectiveness.  This is not likely with this combination.  To play it safe, take a 1/2 hour interval between the ingestion of the pill and the Mylanta.  That will guarantee that there is no cross interaction.

what is best for an upset stomach: pepto bismol liquid, mylanta one dose chewable tablets, or alka-seltzer extra strength heartburn relief chews? i would like the best option out of the three?

: Any of these 3 products could be used for stomach upset, depending on which one works best for you. Everyone is different so you should probably pick the one you can most easily afford and see if that helps. If it doesn’t, see your doctor. Good luck to you!

i have reflux disease treated with omeprazole. 10 days ago i doubled the dosage to 40 mg/day after symptoms of gerd increased plus use mylanta max strength as needed. stool has turned light yellow over past weeks. is that a normal side effect?

: Fecal discoloration is a post marketing side effect of Omeprazole but I could not tell if the change is dose dependent. Mylanta does not affect stool color, only causes either loose stool or constipation. Stool with light yellow color, if not from those noted meds, does not seem grossly abnormal though.

i was at the er yesterday for gastritis pain, they gave me mylanta and pantoprozele, now i have lower back pain and lower abdominal pain. are these symptoms a sign that i should return to the er or continue my medication?

Need more info: The medication was appropriate and normally will give you some relief within 24-48 hours. I hope that the physician also gave you dietary instructions. If your symptoms continue or get much worse see your family physician or return to the ER. I prefer that you see your family physician for continued care.
