i am taking the antibiotic cephalexin, is it fine to take antacids (mylanta) while taking the medication. will it cause any interactions?

: You are concerned that the Mylanta might trap some of the antibiotic and lower its effectiveness.  This is not likely with this combination.  To play it safe, take a 1/2 hour interval between the ingestion of the pill and the Mylanta.  That will guarantee that there is no cross interaction.

i was at the er yesterday for gastritis pain, they gave me mylanta and pantoprozele, now i have lower back pain and lower abdominal pain. are these symptoms a sign that i should return to the er or continue my medication?

Need more info: The medication was appropriate and normally will give you some relief within 24-48 hours. I hope that the physician also gave you dietary instructions. If your symptoms continue or get much worse see your family physician or return to the ER. I prefer that you see your family physician for continued care.

Antacid: The aluminum hydroxide salt in mylanta neutralizes the acid in the stomach.

Mylanta: Mylanta is unlikely to be related to diabetes. If you have symptoms that are of concern to you, a visit to your doctor would be in order.
You can also go online and learn what the effects of Mylanta would be. Most often very helpful.

i have gastritis and take 2 mylanta double strength chewables a day. can i take it long term? or is it harmful?

: Consider evaluation by GI- gastroenterology. Check for H pylori a bacteria that is  associated with gastritis and needs antibiotics. May also be eosinophilic esophagitis or related to food intolerance-s ( dairy/ gluten)or just foods. Famotidine or omeprazole are meds that are used in reflux but no medication -even Mylanta- should be taken on a long term basis without physician/ provider oversight.

does mylanta affect amitriptyline and it's effectiveness? how far apart should i take these two drugs?

1-2 hours...: Always discuss details with your prescriber.  But if on amytriptiline regularly then likely as needed mylanta 1-2 hrs apart should be fine.  Regular use means talk with prescriber for any concerns or changes in symptoms and possible desirability addressing new problems or changing current treatments (depending on why you are taking the prescribed medication). i have had yellow-ish coloured stool for the last 3 days. ive been taking ppis and mylanta double strength chewables for the last couple months, can it be caused by them? what is this caused by? should i be concerned?

Given that your have taken PIs and Mylanta for several months I would follow up with  MD this week there may be a gallbladder  or celiac issues causing the  symptoms. A complete work up is appropriate. F/U w/ MD

i have reflux disease treated with omeprazole. 10 days ago i doubled the dosage to 40 mg/day after symptoms of gerd increased plus use mylanta max strength as needed. stool has turned light yellow over past weeks. is that a normal side effect?

: Fecal discoloration is a post marketing side effect of Omeprazole but I could not tell if the change is dose dependent. Mylanta does not affect stool color, only causes either loose stool or constipation. Stool with light yellow color, if not from those noted meds, does not seem grossly abnormal though.

MYLANTA ingredients: Mylanta has 3 active ingredients :
aluminum hydroxide -antacid works by neutralizing protons (acid) and
magnesium hydroxide -antacid works by neutralizing protons (acid) and 
simethicone -antigas =is an anti-foaming agent that decreases the surface tension of gas bubbles (it does not stop gas from forming, however) usual dose: over 12 years: take 2-4 teaspoonfuls between meals.
