Patch test: You can test skin products that could cause local skin reactions using a patch test. Place a dab of any skin product on the pad of a bandaid & place it on a place the kid won't mess with, like the back. You can check the site occasionally for any reaction & remove it after 24hrs. If no redness or blistering occurs at the site, its probably ok to use on the kids skin.

went to eye doc- eyelid was red and swollen. got an antibiotic ointment (neomycin and polymyxin b sulfates & dexamethasone ophthalmic ointment) but not sure if allergy or dirt. taken 1 day. super dizzy, & eye feels all better. can i stop taking it?

: Probably this needs treatment for a few days; the immediate improvement probably is from the dexamethasone, but the antibiotics probably need more time to work. Follow the instructions with the prescription, or call the doctor's office if still uncertain. The ointments are not the cause of your dizziness.

Neomycin not emycin (erythromycin): Yes, you can  use topical creams or ointments containing neomycin and polymyxin if you are allergic to e-mycin, also called erythromycin. The three medications do not cross react. It is confusing, because 2 of the medications' names end in the letters "mycin, " but in this case the names are misleading and there is no relationship between the medications.

if i switch from lactulose to neomycin, will it start working right away?

Maybe in your case: Assuming you have confusion due to your liver disease called hepatic encephalopathy, some people don't respond to lactulose over time or might not like the taste or bloating associated with it, so other medications like antibiotics (neomycin, Flagyl and rifaximin) are used. Antibiotics take a couple days to work. Neomycin requires your hearing to be checked as it can cause hearing loss.
