See your doctor: Without seeing you/your tonsils,this is difficult to answer.Infections of the back of throat and tonsils can cause pain and swelling.These infections can be caused by bacteria or viruses.Viral sore throats can be observed and treated with fluids and over the counter pain reducers such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen.Bacterial infections require antibiotics.Please see your doctor for an exam.

Need to see doctor: I presume that you are pregnant and this may cause acid reflux leading to the sensation of shortness of breath and throat irritation.  However you do need to see your doctor to find out.   When you said your lungs hurt, do you mean just the area under the breastbone (sternum) or other parts of the lungs? The former would be compatible with reflux as well.

Diagnosis: At age 39, you most likely have a viral upper respiratory infection.  Whether  it is viral or bacterial,  the pain in the middle ear, not the inner ear, may be referred.  That is, the throat discomfort may refer pain to the side of the face.  
     The proper treatment in medicine is not to look for over the counter medicine first, but to be evaluated by a competent ENT doc before you do anything.

Sore throat: If you were medically checked and there is no significant issue - consider gargling with warm salt water to decrease inflammation and pain.

URI: Winter's not over yet. Upper respiratory infection. Viruses, strep are still very common this time of year. Tonsils are immune tissues in the back of the throat that tend to be involved; much of the immune response will start there. Think about whether there's the possibility of strep throat - if so call for an appointment at your local provider. Rapid strep tests are very accurate.

yesterday i had a panic attack and started yelling and after that my tonsils hurt constantly and it hurts to swallow. could i have strained my tonsils?

Yelling seems to suggest unresolved feelings of resentment and anger.

Sore throat: Frequently when a person has a sore throat and strep test is negative, this suggests a viral infection.  There are many viruses, but a common one in young adults is ebv or infectious mono virus.  This can be tested for as well.

...: why would you automatically assume HIV. how about good old tonsillitis or strep throat? that being said, if you are concerned about HIV you should talk to your health care provider for testing. best health.
