i don't think i have dandruff but my scalp itches like crazy. weven hen i shampoo or condition and rinse thoroughly. any suggestions?

Need to see Doctor: Itchy scalp is due to an inflammatory reaction on the scalp.It is a common problem among adults.It can be caused by
1seborrhic dermatitis which cause dandruff
2hypothyroidism
3lupus erythematotus
4scalp infections with fungi and bacteria
5allergy to shampoos or hair dyes/dressings
a persistant itchy scalp needs to be examined and evaluated by your doctor or dermatologist.

i have been treated for scabbies with ivermectin and permethrin. it seemed to have gotten rid of them but i still have itching .my scalp a itches like crazy with no rash no real rash ,looks like hives and occasional clear blister . is this norm?

: I'm so sorry! Itching is awful! Scabies can itch for 2 weeks after treatment, have to wait for all the scabies bugs and eggs to not only be dead but to be completely gone. Antihistamines like Loratadine in the day or diphenhydramine at night can help. If it has been longer than 2 weeks, I would look for other causes including things like eczema.

my scalp was itching like crazy and got sores from scratching so i washed my scalp with ivory bar soap and it stopped. why is that? washing stops it.

Itching: If you are sweating a lot the scalp can get very irritated and inflamed. But sometimes the scalp get inflamed from just being dry. Medicated shampoos help (like neutrogena t gel or Nizoral (ketoconazole) which are over the counter). If this does not help, i suggest being evaluated for dermatitis along the scalp which is a common and treatable condition.

i'm on zoloft (sertraline) 100 for a few months and my scalp is itching like crazy. could it be from zoloft (sertraline)? should i quit it to see if the itching improves?

Zoloft (sertraline): It is not advised to suddenly quit the zoloft (sertraline). Talk to your prescribing doctor to further explore source of your rash & possibly refer u to a dermatologist.

i have been on kessar 20mg for breast cancer since 2012. my scalp is itching like crazy as well as the skin around my waist, my armpits and lower legs. i was wondering if the tamoxifen could be the cause and what can i use to soothe the itching. ?

Unlikely: that tamoxifen is the cause, can be a separate issue, fungal infection can be a cause, see a dermatologist, best wishes

Shampoo and Referral: You can use any of the over-the-counter dandruff shampoos--ask your pharmacist. If no relief within 2-3 weeks, see your doctor for a dermatology consult.

Dandruff: There is benign condition of skin sloughing off from the scalp  and make you uncomfortable . The most important thing to make sure is that it is not fungal infection  in which case , you require specific antifungal medication . For  simple skin flecking , using anti- dandruff shampoo is something to start with . Good luck.

Not likely: Is there a specific place that bleeds or it's generalized?
Can you see anything on the skin?
It can be anything from a fungal/parasite infection to a skin condition- psoriasis specifically, less likely cancer.
You definitely have to abstain from scratching since this is feeding in the condition.
Ultimately, consider letting your PCP examine your scalp.
