This doesn't sound: like an emergency, but I would recommend you call the doctor who is seeing you for the cyst and be seen in the next few days.

Here are some...: Minor bleeding of various degree is expected at this stage of healing. All what you have to do is flush the wound for cleansing, paint it with betadine solution, and place 4x4 gauze with some pressure as long as having no bleeding tendency. This wound takes time to heal - as long as 1-3 months depending on its size and personal healing ability. Of course, ask your surgeon as needed.

Recurrence?: If your surgery was with in a year or so, make sure it is not recurrence.Go back to your operating surgeon for a check up.

Keep open: You actually want to keep the cyst open.  Premature closure can lead to abscess.  Unfortunately the area involved is sensitive.  Usually keeping this area covered with a "feminine napkin" will provide ample coverage until fully evaluated by your doctor.  Fever and increase bleeding warrants an er visit.

See your surgeon : There may be residual cyst or foreign body such as hair strand underneath that cause periodic inflammation and may need to re-excise it.

No: A pilonidal cyst is an ingrown hair of the skin over the midline at the coccyx bone.  There is no relation to the rectum at all.  If this is happening, the diagnosis is not a pilonidal cyst.

Pressure and wait: If you have a draining Pilonidal cyst it can probably drain for some time.  However if you pace some clean gauze or sterile gauze on the area and place a crap or jock strap around to hold on the gauze or a pad that will slow down the bleeding for now.  Be very careful when changing the pads as they can make bleed.  Need to see your doctor and he can help until you see specialist. Hope this helps.

The most accepted theory for the cause of these cysts is the blockage of hair follicles in the skin of the area which creates "pits" in the cleft of the buttocks. As the follicles become clogged with hair and skin debris, cyst formation occurs.

Shaving, surgery: Uncomplicated cysts can often be managed with shaving the area. Dislodged hairs that work into the cyst cause the infection. Of course, some folks who aren't hairy have pilonidal cysts. If local swelling and pain occurs, infection is likely. Antibiotics can often treat the acute symptoms unless there is a frank abscess- that needs drainage. Recurrent symptoms usually require resection of the cyst.
