What kind of surgery: It would not be a normal issue from most surgery to have a colon perforation , but it is a possible complication of some procedures.

Perforated Colon: A perforated colon is an acute medical emergency, as you know. Tiny holes will heal themselves, but if it is due to an invasive cancer, especially when the spilled contents cause an infection in the abdomen, surgery and antibiotics are indicated. I assume you have had the definitive surgery for your stage T3 (liothyronine) tumor. Your surgical team would have removed the diseased portion of bowel.

my biopsy from july 1 showed abscesses in colon and rectum. getting antibiotics tomorrow but nurse said i will probably need surgery. they are painful and it is difficult to sit down and remain seated. how serious is this?

: If you haven't already done so, it would be worthwhile to get an opinion from a colorectal surgeon.

i recently had perforated colon surgery on 10/28 w/ 4 days in hosp. is it normal to feel uncomfortable pressure in lower abdomen when urinating? also how long is the healing process?

: If your symptoms persist beyond a week or so after surgery, it would be prudent to consult your doctor to rule out persistent infection.

Yes; rarely: The primary treatment for colon and rectal cancer is surgical removal.  Some rectal cancers are so close to the anus that it is impossible to remove it without having a colostomy;  thankfully, this is the exception rather than the rule.

i take 4mg medrol/d, since, a small wound takes long weeks to heal completely (one week before) should i be concerned in case of colon surgery ?

Steroids: It is always preferable to not have steroids on board prior to surgery. If your surgery is elective and youre only on steroids temporarily, then it would be preferable to wait until you were off. However, if surgery is needed non-electively and/or you are on steroids indefinitely, then its ok to proceed.

Sigmoid resection: Bowel movements may not be normal for a few weeks as the shortened segment promotes looser stools postop. Avoid eating harsh roughage for weeks and introduce fiber gradually. Your surgeon will advise you about restrictions on working, driving, and other physical activities. Notify him/her if there is blood, inability to pass stool or unusual abdominal discomfort or wound issues.

Yes. : It's wise to keep doing this and even recommended as polyps can always develop and give rise to recurrent cancer.

my husband had colon rectal cancer and had a colostomy now he is going to get it reversed i guess i need to know how hard the surgery will be on him he has gone through so much and now its all fixing to be over please help ?

It will be easier: Nobody knows how thing is going to happen in the future. However, the reversal surgery , i think, will be easier for him than the surgery he had before. He has been going through a lot and having the reversal surgery, psychologically,  will be one of the closure for him . Good luck for him and god bless you both.

is colon cancer stage 4 fatal? i have been denied surgery because my albumin is to low. i get really bad fevers at night but that's all.

Accepted Answer

It is serious: Stage-4 cancer is an advanced stage of disease but not always fatal. Some pateints do survive this disease even in stage-4. But you need a good oncologist to treat you. I assume you have received some treatment with chemotherapy by now. Tell us more details about your chemotherapy. Take Tylenol(paracetamol) to control fever which can be caused by cancer especially if it has spread into your  liver
