i got blood drawn and now my elbow hurts. the blood was taken about two days ago and the pains in my elbow started today. it feels like its in the joint/bottom of my elbow. could these be related or just normal pains?

Likely unrelated: In a routine blood stick there is almost no changce there could have been any effect on your elbow.

i hit my elbow rather hard on the wall. it put me to tears. but i shook it off and now my elbow hurts to touch. i can extend arm.  should i wait ?

Well! : As long as u have full pom & it is painless u may have olecronon bursitis. This would present as a fluid filled sack @ the tip of the elbow. U should b cn by an orthopedic surgeon 4 eval, xam & x- rays 2 b sure. If this is what u have some may aspirate & inject with steroids. If there's any abrasion or cut over the area there is a chance of infection. Increase in pain swelling & pain report right.

See a doctor: Because it could be angina pain referred to arm.  Also, it could be anything, from bone tumor to shingles, and some conditions could be serious.

If : If it is hot it could be bursitis (inflammed fat pad of elbow area) or there could be an infection involving the joint.  I would rest the joint. Consider helping to control pain with use of an oral non-steroidal antiinflammatory medication (i.e., like motrin).  Ice is also helpful. Frozen bags of peas or corn are especially good for this purpose. If the area of redness and heat continues to expand or there are red streaks our fever, than please go to an er or acute care clinic. If it is not resolving after a week but is not worsening, than please call your doctor.

Inflammation: Swelling denotes inflammation. X-rays being negative means no fracture and you are too young to have osteoarthritis. The inflammation could be tendonitis, bursitis, or some type of inflammatory arthritis depending on where the swelling is located. See an orthopedic surgeon or a rheumatologist if you have not received a diagnosis and plan at this point.

Referral to Surgeon: A sharp pain at the point of the elbow may be caused by damage to the soft tissues over the olecranon (bone) located at this point.  This is often leaned when sitting which can lead to swelling .  This could also be 'tennis elbow' due to repetitive work which involves constant  movement of your elbow. I suggest seeing an Orthopaedic surgeon for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Probably lateral: Epicondylitis.  Pain on outside of elbow with gripping an grabbing. Pain radiating up arm and into forearm. Treat it with ice massage, wrist brace to keep the muscles in your forearm rested and nsaids if needed. If not getting better a cortisone injection should help.

fell yesterday on icy pavement; banged my elbow.   hurts and the tip feels flat, not like the other side.  can use the injured elbow just fine.
