Inflammation: Swelling denotes inflammation. X-rays being negative means no fracture and you are too young to have osteoarthritis. The inflammation could be tendonitis, bursitis, or some type of inflammatory arthritis depending on where the swelling is located. See an orthopedic surgeon or a rheumatologist if you have not received a diagnosis and plan at this point.

Epicondylitis: Probably over-use syndrome called epicondylitis. This can occur on the inside or outside of the elbow (golf ears , tennis elbow). Any lifting or turning of the arm can provoke severe pain. The elbow will be verytenderto touch and swollen. See an orthopedic doc or pain mangement doc treatments include acupuncture, physical therapy, deep heat. Ultrasound , estim, steroid injection. You should brace.
