Dry skin: Avoid lengthy showers w hot water (warm is better). Oil-based moisturizers hydrate skin. Moisturize skin often. Hydrate well – especially w water. Eat a nutritious diet.  Use gentle soaps or cleansers that are unscented &amp; hypoallergenic. Avoid deodorant soaps or other harsh soaps.  Remember that you don’t have to wash entire body w soap every day. Use soap on areas that are dirty or where body

Cetaphil Restoraderm: Cetaphil restoraderm cleanser and moisturizer are intended for individuals with eczema or very dry skin and can be used on face as well as body.  Otherwise, they also make a gentle cleanser that might work as well.

i over-used benzoyl peroxide & my face is bright red and dry, even after many hours. i need the redness to go away asap. what should i do?

Wait it out: This is going to happen with any of these products &amp; the chemical burn you created must heal. Be sure you get all of it off with a moisturizing soap.You could try a mild (1/2% hydrocortisone cream thinly applied once or  twice a day for itching/redness but you mostly have to let it heal.It will behave like a sunburn. Avoid the BP for a few weeks.

Hard to know: The skin condition you are dealing with may or may not have anything to do with your thyroid meds. Increasing/decreasing these meds is best guided by blood test that shows your level of control. If cutting the med is part of such efforts a followup blood test after a month or so should show whether this could contribute to any issue or be just what you need.

Perhaps : Perhaps you have seborrheic dermatitis?  This is a common condition this time of year and if typically found on the scalp or face.  On the face, it is seen as red, scaly areas on the forehead, between the eyebrows (or on the middle part of the eyebrows), and beside the nose.  Typical treatment would be Ketoconazole Cream and/or desonide cream which can prescribed by a dermatologist.  Otc options might include Cortaid (hydrocortisone) which can help some patients. Seborrhea: This sounds like what is called seborrheic dermatitis or seborrhea.  First try to use a water based moisturizer such as Cetaphyl.  If this doesn't work try over the counter cortisone, twice a day for 2-3 days at a time.  If you still are having trouble, then go see your dermatologist.  Unfortunately, seborrhea is a chronic condition.  There is no cure for it.  So treat it only when it's active.

Evaluation: Please consult a physician for proper diagnosis and treatment. It could be seborrheic dermatitis, allergic reaction, infection , sun damage etc to mention few possibilities.

Dermatitis: It depends on what is really going on and should be seen by a doctor. It could be contact dermatitis, allergic dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, Lupus, Rosacea, and other etiologies. Each condition would be approached a little different in regards to work-up and treatment.

Have it evaluated: It is impossible to say without being able to do a physical exam and know the results of x rays and lab studies. The cough needs evaluation in a smoker because of the high risk of major lung issues. See a doctor soon.
