i had dry socket about 2 days after getting a tooth extracted last wednesday my dentist cleaned the area and packed it 2 days agoo how long is the swelling in my face and neck going to last i look like i have the mumps and i am still in a lot of pain?

Call him: Speak to your dentist.About medication... Are you on antibiotics?   Were these teeth impacted? The swelling could last a few days'
   try using a homeopathic remedy called traumeel get the liquid in a health food store and take 6 drops under your tongue  4 times a day for the next few days.

Soon.: Since you are on an antibiotic for infection you should be seeing improvement within 2-3 days but it may take the entire antibiotic course or longer for swelling to completely resolve.  If you don't see improvement within 2-3 days see your primary doctor or go back to the UC for a recheck.  There could be many reasons why it's not improving and may need a different antibiotic or I&amp;D.  Good luck.

Lymph nodes : React to anything abnormal in the are they drain,  such as infection on the skin, in the throat, mouth, teeth,  etc. Etc. And when the infection is acute and the lymph node swells in  just hours/days, it will hurt. Secondly, there are diseases of the lymphatic system and if involves a lymph node it can swell too. This usually not that painful as it is a mslower  process. You, go and see a dr!

Autoimmune or infect: Your symptoms could represent either an autoimmune disorder like Lupus or scleroderma or an infectious process like Lyme disease. These are just examples. You need to see a good internet to get blood tests and perhaps X-rays and have a through examination. Your internist could then refer you further if needed. If symptoms now, go to MD now.

See below: If you have a boil it is very common for the lymph nodes in the local area to get inflammed. They will go away as the boil subsides.

Doctor should check: Most people get a headache at some time, such as from colds, infections, lack of sleep, too much driving, long hours on computers, stress at work, etc... A severe or increasing headache, recurrent headache, weird headache, or with other worrisome symptoms should be evaluate. That said, one's doctor can examine to see if the swelling is muscle, lymph node, cyst, abscess, allergic reaction, etc...
