Cast pain: Well , if a cast is too tight pain is usually the first indicator.  Certainly affected body parts changing color such as red or blue due to vascular compromise is an emergency.  Be aware of this as well as numbness that could indicate nerve compression.  See the physician that applied the cast for help - and don't wait .They would want to see you even if you are just concerned.

Get to ER now: possible circulatory issue from the fracture. Must be observed directly to make an accurate diagnosis. Additionally, although loose now, the cast may have caused compression when originally placed.

It : It is very important to keep your leg elevated above the level of your heart to prevent swelling after a reduction and casting since the cast is circumferential and if your foot swells it may cut off circulation.  I would keep it elevated and apply ice and if the pain and swelling does not subside or if it worsens i would go to the nearest er and have the cast split or removed.

i have broke my foot and i'm on cast .do i have to change my cast ? it has been 4 4weeks so far and it's a bit tight ! 5 days left to my appointment .

Circulation: Cast will probably be removed at next appointment. If toes feel different in temperature and have different color than other foot, may be compromise in circulation. Then you should have cast removed right away.

Contact your doctor: You need to consult your treating doctor. If you notice a lot of pain or increased swelling, your doctor will probably want to examine you and possibly bivalve or replace your cast with one that does not have too much pressure. Increased compartment pressures can sometimes cause this problem, or it could be normal.
When a cast is too tight, it can cause skin problems.

diagnosed fractured tibial plataeu, 6 weeks cast. after the cast removed, i cant bed or straighten my knee. is it normal? i can bend only 90. and i can almost straighten it. feels like my calf is tight. please help. thanks?

: I'm not surprised at the limitation of motion by the knee joint, but one worries about the presence of.phlebitis when calf pain swelling or tenderness follows a period of.reduced mobilization and prolonged cast wearing. Get checked by your MD who would probably order a leg ultrasound depending upon physical findings. Your knee joint will improve with appropriate physical therapy when approved byMD

Can be expected --: Stiffness from being in a cast for 4 weeks. Numbness maybe from cast being too tight or the cotton padding may have bunched up causing a local neuritis, which should clear up in 2-3 weeks time. As you exercise the tight muscles should loosen up and get stronger, reducing the stiffness as well.
Massage/stretching exercises would help the epicondylitis. The doc should advise re: the torn tendon!

Sciatica and Feet: Typically sciatica caused by  a foot injury is due to the abnormal weight bearing produced by crutches, canes, casts, boots, etc. A physical therapist should be called in to make sure your spine is stable when you are wearing a cast. Patients can get into weird positions when lugging around a cast, with even lying in bed stressful on the spine. Dr rich blake.

it's been a yr since i broke my ankle (no bone fracture, only torn ligaments) i had a cast on & all that. it's stilla bit swollen & tight. what to do?

Not uncommon: Severe injuries to the soft tissues (ligaments, tendons, joint capsule, etc.) about the ankle  can be a long- term problem for some. See a specialist who may recommend physical therapy, ankle bracing and/or surgery if necessary.  They may need to order an MRI to assess for specific pathology.
