Your immunity: Is in poor shape and might be a reflection of your diet, especially all the sweet "junk", caffeine, diet drinks etc. Try looking at this and get a good multivitamin.

: I would use the Ornish diet first and see what happens. It will happen in a month if it is going to happen. Only way to tell is to try.  Most with what I call a genetic high cholesterol have values over 500 LDL. So you not really consider yours genetically high but may run in your family do to eating habits.

i'm 10 weeks pregnant and gained a significant amount of weight in my first trimester. however, my bmi was underweight (110lb at 5.7ft) before conceiving. now my bmi is "normal". does being underweight before make my extra weight gain ok?

Pregnant weight: Absolutely. Those with a pre-pregnancy BMI under 18.5 should gain 28–40 pounds. Normal-weight women (BMI, 18.5–24.9) should aim for 25–35. Overweight women (BMI, 25–29.9) should aim for 15–25. Obese women (BMI, 30 or more) should gain only 11–20. Govern a starting BMI of 17.2 I would expect you to gain 40 pounds.

After seeing doctor,: If one is truly underweight (based on height, family background, and body type), a Dr. can evaluate for a hormonal, digestive, or other disorder. If no medical cause is found, then one can add weight by eating more calories of nutritious foods, while also doing weight-training to increase muscle.  Proteins: egg white, chicken breast, salmon,...  Better fats: olive oil, peanuts, almonds, tofu,....

Yes: This  quite a low bmi for most people. Some body builders and professional level athletes have extremely low bmi's.

Two issues: Bmi is an estimate dependent on a fudge factor that assumes bone structure & muscle mass are consistent along all body types.It can be off some. To verify bmi assessment, plotting height & weight along standardized growth charts (cdc or who) gives a better graphic representation of proper weight for height. If you are underweight by both systems, your brain may be giving you a distorted self image.

If your BMI is: 15.9 and you're a female who is about 5 feet tall, your weight would have to be about 80 pounds -- which would be considered very, very thin and probably unhealthy. Are we talking about someone with an eating disorder who needs psychiatric help?

You're not a number: The BMI was never intended for use by individuals. If you feel well, are athletic, &amp; keep up with peers at fitness activities, you have no reason to change. Elite track athletes have BMI's like yours. And don't try to gain by eating to gain fat -- a man needs no body fat and a woman needs only a little. Exercise regularly, handle any health issues with your physician's help &amp; weight self-solves.

BMI: I would have your pediatrician share your height and weight charts.
If they are both below the normal ranges you need to see a Pediatric Endocrinologist.

If they are both normal - relax.

If one is OK but the other is not you need the pediatric endocrinologist.
