hello. when i take the metoprolol succinate 25mg tab, around 5-7 hours later the skin on my back and stomach feels like its burning or itchy (i dont scratch) but there is no rash. is this common or cause for concern? thank you?

: Just about any drug can cause itching or pruritus. The best way to see if the metoprolol is doing this to you is to stop it and see what happens.

Nerve pain: Chronic or recurrent pain in or near the shoulder blade may come from a nerve entrapment or irritation from spurs or bulging disk in the upper spine. If symptoms persist or worsen, see an orthopedic specialist for evaluation and imaging studies. . Lung causes and scapular problems are possible also.

Radiating Pain: Pain radiating to the back (retroperitoneal)  would suggest a duodenal ulcer or pancreatitis. You need to have lab work done to include a CBC (complete blood count) and amylase/lipase. Have you seen any dark, black bowel movements?

Doctor can evaluate: A person whose neck skin was previously fine, and now has a burning pain sensation, may have shingles . . . Which means he needs to get treatment started right away, to try to prevent chronic bad pains afterward. Other skin problems, and problems related to changes to nerves going to the skin, can cause similar symptoms. Of course, he could also just have a sunburn on the back of his neck.

Therefore it is appropriate to see a sports medicine doctor or PMR physician for a complete examination and consideration of a MRI and nerve test. There are local injections or medications some of which may be topical that can help. Acupuncture and PT may be a consideration

This is most likely due to overworked muscles that help suspend your head at the tip of your spine.  The human head weighs about 9 pounds(4.5 kg).  Those muscles will begin to complain after a while.  Periodically stop and stretch, lean your head back and relax.  Also change the position of your screen.
