Nerve pain: Chronic or recurrent pain in or near the shoulder blade may come from a nerve entrapment or irritation from spurs or bulging disk in the upper spine. If symptoms persist or worsen, see an orthopedic specialist for evaluation and imaging studies. . Lung causes and scapular problems are possible also.
