i went to the hospital and they took blood. it's 8 hours later and my arm is throbbing in pain. the skin is very dark & bruised, too. is this normal?

Hematoma: It's a hematoma and it's not normal, but it most likely isnt worrisome either. Ice it, elevate it, and put an ace wrap on it. Go to the er if you develop tingling, coolness, or pain in the hand/fingers as this can mean the pressure has built up too much(compartment syndrome) and is cutting off the blood supply down from the site.

Nerve recovery: This is  a result of the burn and the reaction of the nerve fibers that were involved.

Accepted Answer

Possible bursitis: The throbbing shoulder may be due to acute bursitis and the other symptoms could be referred to the arm and hand. Try cold or warm applications and if you can take them,NSAIDS like ibuprofen may help. See a physician if symptoms persist or worsen.

Anti-inflammatories: It would be very unusual for a jammed finger to require strong pain killers.  I'f you don't have pain relief with over the counter anti-inflammatories such as Motrin or aleve (naproxen) then you should get evaluated and have an x-ray done.  More pain from a jammed finger can be a sign if tendon damage or a fracture.

Nerve pinch: Common entrapments of ulnar N at the elbow, cubital tunnel,syndrome, can cause this. Might also be a forearm entrapment at pronator teres. See an ortho or PMR doc to eval,this and get a correct diagnosis and treatment path.

Pain: You should see your doctor. You still can have a DVT with a therapeutic pt. You may need a ultrasound or a MRI to evaluate if coming from your cervical spine.

Maybe: This one is hard to say without examining your shoulder as it can be hard to distinguish pain arising from shoulder conditions such as impingement or rotator cuff tendonitis from neck conditions such as bulging disc.  Need to be examined to truly discern where the problem is from.  Xrays can be normal in either condition.

i am recovering from surgery and am getting left arm pain that comes and goes.  it is a throbbing pain in my bicep and hurts almost like a pulse throb.   i have a history of nerve pain so i never know when to take these pains seriously.  ?

Arm numbness: Too little information here.  Sound like a neurogenic cause but may be vascular. Can you provide more details like: when it started, where in the arm is it located, what makes it worse, better?  Do you have an neck pain, history of injury?
