i have a septated 5 cm cyst that my dr thinks is a peritoneal inclusion. i`m 53 yo, negative ca-125 , & asymptomatic. how likely is it cancerous?

Very unlikely: Monitor the cyst with ultrasound every 6 months or so, at least initially, if stable, and if asymptomatic, may be left alone.

husband has benign cystic peritoneal mesothelioma oncologist wants yearly ct no removal suggested now. maybe hipec/surgery later. any thoughts?

Ethical oncologist: Your husband is triply-fortunate. He has a lesion that's best left alone and will most likely not be a great problem. He has an oncologist who's told you the truth and not suggested unnecessary treatment. And best of all, he has a devoted and resourceful wife. Be sure that at least two pathologists signed off on the diagnosis of this rare entity.

please translate? can have squamous cells yet not cancer? thanks! cytologic diagnosis: peritoneal cyst, fine needle aspiration, thinprep - cell block slides: low cellularity specimen with few squamous cells and acellular debris. no evident malignancy?

: Some squamous cells can become malignant, but "squamous" itself never means cancer. Your skin is covered in billions of squamous cells; so are the linings of your vagina, mouth, nose, etc. Many or most skin and genital area cysts are lined with squamous cells, so this is a normal finding. The main result here is there there is no evidence of either malignancy or infection. Congratulations!

had a peritoneal inclusion cyst aspirated. culture (gram stain) came back for "few" white and red blood cells present. no sqamous or microorganisms. what might treatment include? thank you in advance?

: By radiopaedia website: "conservative treatment (use of GnRH analogs, oral contraceptives to suppress ovulation, pain medication) is the first line of treatment. Image-guided transvaginal fluid aspiration and sclerotherapy have been attempted with partial success.  
Surgical resection of adhesions is necessary only in selected cases."

removed endometrioma 3 mts ago. i got recurrence. already 5cm. painful everyday. does that mean the cyst is growing? how can i manage the pain?

Maybe: Wow, i'm so sorry that's happening to you. I can't imagine your pain.  If you already have a 5cm recurrent endometrioma, most gyn doctors are going to recommend removal, laparoscopically.  These cysts don't go away on their own, and can cause problems associated with infertility and scarring.  Best if already 5cm that you have removed. In terms of pain, you may consider nsaid, such as ibuprofen.

what is the recurrence rate of dermoid cysts on the ovaries?

Dermoids don't recur: It is believed that dermoids of the ovaries "do not recur" once removed; they  are probably present at birth; they may seem to recur but new ones may not be detectable until later when they grow and/or become symptomatic. Most women who are found to have a dermoid have only one single dermoid;10 to 15% of women may have more than one dermoid of varying sizes or may  have dermoids in both ovaries

if a ganglion cyst ruptures on its own, could compression help prevent recurrence?

Compressed cyst: That's a nice idea, but I doubt it will be a permanent fix because the inner lining of the outpouched membrane making up the cyst will still be there and will continue to secrete fluid resulting the cyst getting big again.

Bc pills: It depends on what type of cyst you had, but getting on birth control pills can prevent ovarian cyst formation.

Not likely.: Most likely cause of recurrence is just recurrence.

Aspirate: With thyroid cyst, first line therapy is to aspirate cyst. Recurrence is a risk and you will be monitored. Stay up with your doc visits and medications. If aspiration and monitoring fail, then a surgical removal the thyroid lobe with the cyst will be considered. Good luck.
