my 9 year old seems to have a mucocele bump under her tongue. it doesn't hurt her but its aggravating. it goes and comes...is it ok to pop it?

Accepted Answer

No : Take her to her pediatrician and ask his/ her opinion if necessary they will refer you to surgeon, no home surgeries. That can bleed profusely remember tongue has a very rich blood supply. Don't ask for trouble.

Maybe: Her pediatrician can look to see if it looks like a typical mucoceole. Many mucocoeles go away on their own after a while. The remainder can be treated by an ENT doctor (otolaryngologist) or sometimes by a pediatrician.

can you have mucoceles on back inside lower gum (near back molar and tongue)? tiny painless cyst keeps popping (no pus) and reoccuring (7 days now)

Unusual: Not being able to examine the lesion I can only tell you that it should be examined to be able to properly diagnose the lesion.  Please see your Dentist or an Oral Surgeon.

after the excision of a big mucocele from the bottom side of my tongue 2.5 months ago, my tongue tip looks like swollen (a bump that causes it to point upwards).i believe this causes me issues with pronunciation.is it nerve damage?will it get better?

Consult Oral surgeon: You need complete and proper exam. Check the healing and check the nerve sensation.

: Once a mucocele is treated it is considered healed. If the area is traumatized again, a new mucocele can form.

is mucocele in the mouth is a harmful condition? i'm worried?

Accepted Answer

: Mucoceles are what happens when the outlet "pipes" of mucus producing glands break/scar and a bleb of mucous backs up causing it to develop. It is an inconvenience/irritant more than anything. Oral surgeons and some dentists might remove them. On a scale of 1-10 for problems I consider this one  a 1/2.

i keep getting superficial mucoceles in my mouth. what is the cause of this? is it a sign of a more serious disorder or disease?

Probably not: However, you should see your doctor or dentist and get examined.

Bump: the only way to determine what the bump is would be by having it examined by a dentist or an oral surgeon.  But since it is gone and the area of concern has healed then don't worry about it.

is it dangerous?

Unusual: Unusual place for a mucocele, let alone multiple lesions.Wo made the diagnosis, your Dentist or a Google search? If they are annoying you, see your Dentist, a specialist Oral Surgeon, or a specialist Oral Medicine practitioner. If not mucoceles, correct diagnosis required for proper treatment. Mujcoceles are not dangerous.

i had a bump in my mouth that i poked at and now it has moved and spread out (not get bigger, just longer) could it be a mucocele that didn't drain?

Bump: The only way to tell what the bump is is by seeing a dentist and have it evaluated.  Don't wait for it to get worse.
