what's the difference between a mri and hip arthrogram? i had an mri scan done on my hip and it didn't find anything.  but i still have severe hip pain.  the doctor has ordered a hip arthrogram.  what's the difference?

Your : Your doctor has probably ordered an mr arthrogram, which is a two-step procedure. In the first step, contrast material is injected into the hip joint using fluoroscopic guidance, which is a method of using x-rays in real time to guide proper placement of the injection directly into the joint space. Lidocaine, a local anesthetic, may also be injected, which may temporarily relieve your pain. In the second step, you will be transferred to the mr scanner where you will undergo an MRI of the hip much in the same way as your prior scan. The advantage of the mr hip arthrogram over the regular MRI is that disorders of the labrum, a fibrocartilaginous structure surrounding the hip, are better visualized, as are other disorders of internal derangement of the hip.

Hip arthrogram may also refer to a procedure where medication is injected into the hip joint to relieve pain.

why did none of blood test esr ccp rf cbc show severe synovitis in hip? even mri and hip arthrogram failed. found during hip surgery.

False negatives: Almost all tests have some false negatives. Depending on the severity and extent of synovitis it may not show up on tests. It also depends on the type of inflammation. There can similarly be false positive test results for most of the tests.

Injecting the contrast agent into the joint often provides additional information not found on a regular study.  It may show small tears or holes that would be missed on a regular study.

Yes it dose: The arthrogram is a test done by injecting dye into the wrist joint it dose  heart like a shot. When patient is claustrophobic you 2 possible way.
1- use MRI machine which is open and they are avilaible every were.
2- the doctor could give heavy sedation before the test.

left shoulder mri arthrogram- report states that sgh ligament is not seen.  does this mean it is completely torn? will surgery be necessary?

Not visualized: "not seen likely means "not visualized", so can't tell whether intact or not. You should follow-up with your surgeon to see if surgery is needed- if visualization of the sgh is the main clinical question, you may need arthroscopy to visualize it.
