Yes: This is caused by bacteria in the mouth, decay or gum disease.  Brushing, flossing and tongue cleaning are essential to removing this bacteria.  Start with a dental exam and teeth cleaning.  Keep your mouth clean.  And this should help.  If there is still a breath problem then see md to evaluate medical causes, like sinus, postnatal drip, acid reflux,  being the most common.

Serious or not: Fecal impaction (severe constipation) can cause breath to smell like stool, but so can some other serious GI problems.  Given the age of 70, a visit to a physician is warranted.

Not by smell alone: Infected tonsils smell.  Bacteria between teeth that's not removed by floss smell.  Bacteria on top and back of to get smell, as does infected adenoid, infected sinuses, food debris &amp; bacteria rotting in gum pockets, gastric reflux, and so many other causes.  Your General Dentist and General Physician may have to collaborate to help you solve your halitosis.

Sinus: Your sinuses could be the source.  Mild sinus infection is possible with only occasional bad taste or odor.

Sneezing or bending over can  be the trigger, making it noticeable.

Lactose intolerance?: Causes diarrhea; really should not cause bad breath, not without something else going on.

: Bad breath can be caused by many different factors, including sinus infections, periodontal problems, smoking, cavities, acid reflux, and your diet. I am unaware of anyone "catching" bad breath from someone else. Address the above issues to determine the cause of your halitosis.

Possibilities: Thrush, LERD, pharygitis, bad gums and/or teeth, altered smell/taste, more.

Several things: It's very hard to determine if these symptoms are all related. I would recommend you see both your internist and dentist   The bad breath could be caused by dental decay, periodontitis, and /or stomach GI issues such as reflux.

What do  you do?: Body odor is caused either by something you eat or from bacterial breakdown such is axilla or other locations. Are you eating something such as garlic or other types of food that comes through your pores. Do you use deodorant or bathe at least once per day?
