Think about Botox: Hyperhidrosis (or excess sweating) is more common than you'd think! antiperspirants are the simple answer, but often won't work with true hyperhidrosis. I have had success treating patients underarms, hands, feet, forehead, and scalp with botox. Botox is fda approved for sweating and is very safe and effective. Botox typically lasts for 6 months when used for excess sweating. Hope this helps!

Need labwork: Women can be perimenopausal for 15 years before actual menopause. Progesterone is the first hormone to decline, but hot flashes & night sweats can be related to thyroid or cortisol abnormalities, & other disorders. A doctor with a special interest in anti aging medicine would do a history & physical exam, along with appropriate labwork to determine cause. Go with bioidentical hormones, if needed.

No, see doc!: Did you get sweaty before your other episodes of syncope? Was the cause of the episodes ever identified? Sweating, dizziness, or tunnel vision can indicate low blood sugar, low blood pressure, or other causes of syncope. Let your doctor know that you are experiencing these symptoms to help him or her identify exactly what's going on. Get an evaluation before you have a serious injury.

Hyperhydrosis: This is a very frustrating problem, with psycho-social issues that lead to other problems like isolation, poor self esteem, etc. If the sweating occurs in the usual areas, use of drysol is usually adequate. If you have cranio-facial hyperhidrosis, drysol isn't feasible. Some recent studies with oxybutinin 2.5mg three times daily have been effective. Watch for overheating if you use this drug.
