Maybe yes: Although the great majority of normal, healthy people recover from ebv (mono) infection without any long term problems, there are always an unlucky few who have very serious symptoms. A person with cancer and a weakened immune system, or damage to the spleen, liver, blood cells, or bone marrow, may have more complications from ebv. Chronic or recurrent epstein-barr virus infections can also occur.

: Mono is a pattern disease with a collection of symptoms that can trigger specific white blood cells, the monocytes, to appear in greater numbers in the blood. There are at least three viruses that are known to trigger this pattern. THE Epstein Barr Virus is known to cause the majority of cases. There is a link of EBV to cancer in the 3rd world but this is rarely if ever seen in the US.

Mono specific: There is more than 1 test for mononucleosis. They are supposed to be mono specific and will not rule out other conditions.

No, not likely: Your platelet count is a bit high. But you should get it rechecked before you get too concerned as the counts can fluctuate from one week to the other. We do not get too concerned unless your platelet count is over 500,000 and rising steadily.

hey, how could i tell if i have mono or lymphoma? i have multiple pairs lymph nodes swollen through my body and i'm just wondering as to how i can tell if its cancer related or mono related?

: You go get a checkup where you review your past and current history, travel history, get an exam and testing. Mono can be verified by simple blood tests. Oher triggers to lymph node swelling are reviewed and confirmed or excluded. Cancer would be a rare finding but such a conclusion would require tests.

High : Granulocyte counts points to stress or bacterial infection.  CBC interpertations need to be viewed in context of history and physical exam (go back to your doctor that ordered the test), and cannot deliver an answer in isolation.  Uncommonly some tumors cause such results. And sometimes it is normal on next draw.

Continue workup: Teen cancers don't announce themselves in this way without either very abnormal blood work, very abnormal neuro stuff, or a mass. You're checking your testes, right? It's common for teens to lose weight from mono, from a new sport, or even from illness -- a check for malabsorption / sprue may be in order if you're really wasted or obviously sick.

i have a lump below me chin on my neck, i also have mono and multiple other lymph nodes swollen. the lump on my neck is immovable, i've read that immovable nodes are bad. could this just be immovable because i'm very slim or could it be cancer?
