Preventable: HBP =  95% preventable. Causes: major = simply overweight beyond clear lines of definition and demarcation on the abdomen = low % body fat. Alcohol beyond 4  standard drinks a week, like salt, causes HBP.  Over-the-counter med like Sudafed/ephedra r provok

BP above 140/90: Normal BP is below 120/80. BP between 120-139 systolic or 80-90 diastolic is prehypertension. BP at  or above 140 or 90 is hypertension. Main causative factors are overweight, alcohol, too much salt, and genetics. You can be a thin non-drinker and still have genetic hypertension. Rare causes include some medications, and kidney or adrenal disease. Happy to answer any other questions you may have.

Not really.: Being treated for hypertension and "pre-diabetes" does lessen the negative influence they have on your cardiovascular risk, but the fact that you have these health problems does not go away just because your numbers are now normal.  Keep follow ups with your treating physician and practice good lifestyle habits, such as a healthy diet and exercise, for maximal risk reduction.

Hypertension: First pregnancies, excessive weight gain, history of chronic kidney disease, chronic hypertension, auto-immune disorders, multiple pregnancies, diabetes are just some of the risk factors for the condition. Several: Being overweight is one of the major risk factors.  Also very young or older patients are at increased risk.  If you have a history of high blood pressure or if you had high blood pressure during a previous pregnancy, you are at increased risk.  Eat lots of vegetables, exercise, do yoga, etc.

COVID-19: Asthma may be a risk, but probably minimal if well controlled. Hypertension is not likely to increase risk. The main kinds of problems that might increase risk of bad outcomes with COVID-19 are poorly controlled asthma, COPD, congestive heart failure, advanced cancer, and anything requiring strong immunosuppression (e.g. transplant patients) or chemotherapy.

my mother aged 50 has a family history of high blood pressure. in this age and in this condition, what range is normal what is elevated and what is considered to be hypertension? on google these factors are not considered. kindly help me understand?

: Blood pressure of 120/80 is normal 120-129/80 is elevated 
130-139 &amp;/or80-89  stage I hypertension 
More than140 or more than 90 stage II HTN

my grandma has hypertension and kindey disease stage 4 17%. she had a sudden brain stroke around 5.45am and caused severe bleed in the brain. can this be solely caused by she probably missed her one dose of hypertension medications or other factors?

: No, it's not. Most blood pressure medications have long acting effect so missing or skipping one dose rarely causes a significant spike in BP. Your grandma has HTN and almost end stage CKD so she is at very high risk for stroke due to widespread atherosclerotic vascular disease. She likely has cerebral bleeding post ischemic stroke. Missing one dose of anti-hypertensive med is not the culprit.
