Metallic taste: A metallic taste usually means that the nerve that helps with taste has been inflamed by whatever process that is causing the headaches.   Migraines do not typically cause carotidynia. Carotidynia is a diagnosis of exclusion.  This means that it is usually  the last diagnosis after other processes have been ruled out.  It is an inflammation of the carotid sheath and is painful to manipulation.

More common causes of metallic taste in mouth include diseases of the gums and teeth, multivitamins and supplements, antidepressants, chemotherapy or radiation.
