Diet, exercise, drug: Diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco. You may need drug treatment. See this site for more info.

They ARE useful.: Active lifestyle changes (walking 30 min/day, every day) &amp; healthy food choices (vegetarian 1-2 days/wk minimum) ARE helpful in reducing cholesterol, but may not be sufficient. In many cases,  they reduction only occurs after the addition of medication, like statins. However, if you stop the diet &amp; lifestyle changes, then statins (alone) may not be sufficient. Combination of approaches works best.

is it true that having more than2 eggs a day will increase ldl cholesterol?

Not necessarily: Although the yolk or yellow part of an egg may have almost the total amount of daily requirements for consumed cholesterol, there are many other factors that contribute to your LDL level.  Importantly, 
a lower LDL cholesterol level does not always indicate a lower risk of heart attack and a higher level does not always indicate an increased risk of heart attack.

Fitness is the key: Medication and perhaps even diet may have an impact, but if it is at all possible, get back into that aerobic fitness lifestyle that you enjoyed so much as a teenager. It will probably not just raise your HDL but protect your heart and brain, and make you feel far better. What a fine gift to give yourself!

Isolated low: HDL, by itself, does not mean much, if you have no other risk factors.  Vigorous exercise is the only way of raising it.  There is no medication that will do it.  If you have other risk factors, you should ask your doctor to see if your LDL needs attention.

Yes, dangerously low: Many docs believe cholesterol is just a bad thing that clogs arteries. Actually it is an essential component of every cell membrane & the building block for testosterone, cortisol & all steroid hormones. Low cholesterol is much more dangerous than high cholesterol, associated with increased risk of cancer, stroke, depression etc. Low cholesterol is usually a sign of liver problems. See comment:.
