Colesevelam: Colesevelam is a  medication that is used to lower cholesterol levels &amp; to  treat type 2 diabetes. It should only be taken if it was prescribed for you.

Adjunct only: Don't expect any benefit from Coenzyme Q. It's a minor miracle for a few forms of heart disease, but not common cholesterol problems. I'd consider getting another opinion about how to manage your cholesterol. It's primarily genetic, and staying physically fit is your first line of management. Best wishes.

my husband had blood work done. his dr told him his msh level is low. what does this mean? he was given welchol (colesevelam) to take. we don't really understand!

Neither do I.: I have researched this myself &amp; also don't know what an MSH level is.  Perhaps there was a miscommunication.  Welchol (colesevelam) is one of a class of medications used to treat elevated cholesterol which is a risk factor for coronary artery and peripheral artery disease.  Contact your doctor for clarification.

Statin+Zetia better: Most people become constipated with 6 Welchol/day. Imodium (loperamide) promotes diarrhea, thus ? dose/use. Welchol. 6/day. is approved for reducing LDL-C, but actual issue is LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein) particle concentrations. LDL-C not measured from persons blood &amp; of the 3, 000-6, 000 typical fat molecules per LDL particle, widely varying amounts are cholesterol, thus a poor indicator.

Caplets: They are caplets (shaped like a capsule) - about the same size as most other copsules - maybe 3/4".  Easy to swallow

Take them apart: I would take the wechol in the morning and the Amitriptyline at bedtime - the latter can be very sedating.

Fat and cholesterol: Hi. Dietary cholesterol has a minor effect on your LDL-cholesterol. Saturated fat, on the other hand, raises both triglyceride and LDL-cholesterol. The sources you mention are high in saturated fat, and yes, raise LDL-cholesterol. Nonfat dairy is fine, of course. Some fat in moderation is OK, of course, and is a good energy source, but the American waistline tells you how much we do in moderation.

Stop taking it: If it is an extreme necessity, and there are no alternatives, and you don&#x27;t know whether this an allergic reaction or an adverse drug reaction (side effect), see an allergist/immunologist for evaluation and possible desensitization to the said drug for treatment of a particular disease episode, good luck
