Follicle Size: When we do IVF we like to see at least four follicles over 18-20mm in size. But we often get many more mature oocytes from smaller follicles. In fact, the best predictor of multiple birth risk is the number of follicles that are 10-15mm, and not simply the larger follicles.

on a medicated cycle (250mg of clomid (clomiphene) )i had two follicles 11mm and 12mm are these good size for cd10 and is it poosible to ovulate both eggs ?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Sounds like 2 good maturing eggs on cycle day 10. You may ovulate from both if they are similar. We expect 2mm increase in size per day and ovulation to occur at about 20mm.

hello, i am 38. my fsh is 13 nd my amh is 1.3. my follicle size is 16-17mm ( 9 th day). can i get success through ivf nd with my own egg?

Tip: Unfortunately, I can't answer the question for you.  However, I do have a suggestion.  If you lab values in your inquiry, it's always helpful to also include normal ranges, whenever possible and relevant.

Only one: as follicles grow, they develop receptors for the trigger shot. If a follicle has not grown enough, it will not respond to the trigger shot. Usually only the dominant follicle will ovulate unless multiple other follicles have been stimulated.

Unknown: We can not always explain how an individual follicle is going to react in one particular menstrual cycle. It sounds like you are receiving close follow up from a doctor managing your fertility evaluation. Schedule follow up to discuss the next steps.

i had an iui on 14 day my follicle size was 2.5 today i went for sonography  still don't rupture i took an hcg  on day 12 evening  .will the egg rupture  around 16or 17 day?

Fertility ?'s: Using IUI for conception success will depend on several other factors.  If you have regular periods (24-32 day intervals) ,  follicles will rupture 14 days prior to the onset of a period. Prior to using IUI , ask your gyn physician about a hysterosalpingogram (HSG) to make sure your tubes are open.  HCG shots cause ovulation with mature follicles.  Other fertility measures might be necessary.

my sis has pcos.was on femara (letrozole) cd5-9. 2 follicles got matured,at cd11 got pregnyl injection.is there a chance that egg still did not release?

Accepted Answer

Yes possible: Many PCO patient have issues not only with follicle stimulation, but ovulation as well.  There is no guarantee that she ovulated.  I would recommend she use ovulation prediction kits to give more information.  They are available next to the pregnancy tests at the pharmacy.

Varies : Patients struggling with infertility will all have different responses to  different treatments. Hcg shots work well for some. Others are more resistant. The key is finding a good infertility specialist to work with you and assist you on your journey.

Usually not: Abnormal cysts with septations normally do not produce eggs.

Accepted Answer

Hard to say: Septated follicles can be septated for various reasons.  One of them being blood.  Ie hemorrhagic cyst.  Cysts that have blood in them are typically after ovulation.  So a 16 mm follicle on day 10 doesn't look like a good prognosis for this month.  Also follow up with your gyn to make sure that the septated cyst eventually goes away.
