?: Depends on why the x-ray is being done.  If the doctor is doing an x-ray to see if there is a fracture, several different positions are necessary.

: Phleboliths, which are lumps of calcium in veins, are related to some damage in veins but causes are nebulous. In some cases.they are genetic &amp; present from birth. Nongenetic cases also occur.  Chronic constipation with frequent straining and bearing down to pass stool has been mentioned as a possible cause.

Pain is bad sign: If you have that much pain in your hip joint
to me of two things.
1-you have bad injury  did not effect the bone and you have to give time to heal.
2-you have but not seen on the x-ray, check with doctor he run MRI on the hip to find out.

Most likely safe: X-rays are usually avoided during pregnancy because there's a small chance the radiation may harm the developing baby. But if the x-ray is necessary, it will be done in the safest way possible.

Nothing bad: A phlebolith is calcification in the wall of a vein. They are very common in the pelvis and cause no harm at all.

Different focus: Pelvis looks at your pelvic bones and your hips are included but dedicated hip x-rays focus in with better detail on the hips themselves and you typical get more than one projection as well.

Anatomy: That it is right where it should be.  Your uterus sits right in the middle of your pelvis.

Additional Test: The test of choice for your wife's symptoms is an ultrasound.   This could be gastrointestinal, vascular, or pelvic/gynecological in nature.  It is difficult to give you anymore answers without a full workup of symptoms, onset, duration, frequency, what makes it worse or better, etc...
